The Cinque Terre is a wild part of the coast of the Ligurian Riviera in the province of La Spezia between Punta Mesco and Punta di Montenero, in which there are five villages or, as referred to in ancient times “The Land”.
Le Cinque Terre are:
Monterosso al Mare,
Vernazza,
Corniglia,
Manarola and
Riomaggiore .
They are part of the Côte d’Azur and more specifically the stretch of the Riviera di Levante (Riviera La Spezia).
Since 1997, le Cinque Terre are part of the list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Doria castle originally was a defensive building located on a rocky outcrop, about seventy meters high, in the coastal area south of Vernazza in the Cinque Terre, in the province of La Spezia. The Doria castle was built in the 15th century as a lookout tower to protect the village from pirates.
