Rocca Janula

Janula Rocca is the name of a fortress near Cassino.
The fortification in the land of St. Benedict began in the middle of the tenth century: Fr. Aligerno led Benedictine monks in 949 to their historical headquarters of Monte Cassino. They were forced to flee to Capua in 883 due to the expansion of the Saracens. Even the abbot Bertario was beheaded by the invaders. The victory in August of 915 of Pope John X in the battle of Garigliano marked the resumption of the land and the construction of the fortifications.
