St. Mark’s Basilica (Italian: basilica di San Marco) , Venice, is the largest basilica in Venice. Built in 828, rebuilt after the fire that destroyed the ducal palace in 976 , it is, in 1807 , the cathedral of the Patriarch of Venice. It is located on the Piazza San Marco, in the San Marco district, which owe their name.
