The Basilica of Santa Croce, on the Santa Croce square in Florence, is one of the largest churches officiated by the Franciscans and one of the greatest achievements of Gothic architecture in Italy. Great artists, writers and scientists are buried in this church.
The construction of the basilica dates back to 1294 in a former Franciscan oratory.
