The Basilica of Santa Croce is a church in the old town of Lecce in Via Umberto I. With the former convent of Celestine is the highest manifestation of the Baroque of Lecce. It has the dignity of minor basilica.
Gualtieri VI of Brienne had already founded a monastery in the fourteenth century. After the mid-sixteenth century, they decided to turn the area into a monumental area. Work on the construction of the basilica lasted two centuries, between the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries and they involved the most important architects of the time.
