The Basilica of San Marco in Florence is one of the churches of the old town. The church was originally part of the large complex of the convent of San Marco.
In 1437 Cosimo the Elder, at the suggestion of Antonino Pierozzi then general vicar of the order, decided to start the renovation of the entire complex.
Since 1869 the old convent houses the National Museum of San Marco, which, however, is not part of the church.
