The Amphitheater square (Piazza dell’Anfiteatro in Italian) is in the city of Lucca, built on the ruins of the ancient Roman amphitheater ( second century AD) .
Place Amphitheatre was born in the Middle Ages .
In the nineteenth century has been renovated by the architect Lorenzo Nottolini and was freed from small buildings and it was opened the “way of the amphitheater ” with elliptical profile .
In many stores are still visible structures of the Roman period . Access to the site Amphitheatre Lucca is possible through 4 doors . An interesting fact to note is the cross engraved on a tile in the middle of the square , at the intersection of the 4 doors.
