The baptistery of Pisa, dedicated to St. John the Baptist (Battistero di San Giovanni Battista in Italian) stands in Piazza del Duomo in Pisa , near Campo Santo and the Campanile and not far from the Tower of Pisa.
The building was begun in the mid-twelfth century : in 1153 which corresponded to the year 1152 of the Pisan calendar.
