The Carrara dome (Insigne Collegiata mitrata Abbazia di Sant’Andrea Apostolo in Italian) is almost entirely covered with dazzling white marble of great value, extracted from nearby quarries of Carrara. An older church, Ecclesia Sancti Andree Carraria , is mentioned as existing on this site as 1035, but it remains only a relief. The church was enlarged for the first time in 1093, when it received the status of Pieve.
