Melfi Castle is a medieval castle in the town of Melfi, in the province of Potenza in the Basilicata region in Italy. Itis one of the most important medieval castles in the Mezzogiorno.
Its foundation dates back to Norman times and is one of the largest medieval castles in southern Italy. The structure has undergone renovations and expansions by the Swabians by the Angevins and Aragonese . He was held by noble families as Acciaiuoli, Marzano, Caracciolo and Doria, who were the owners of the castle until 1950. The building houses the National Archaeological Museum of Melfi, opened in 1976.
