Octagonal baptistery of San Giovanni in corte

The Baptistery of San Giovanni in Corte, or Ritondo of Pistoia, is on the Cathedral Square, opposite the cathedral, in the space of the old curtis regia.
The name comes from the ancient church of Santa Maria in Corte, the Lombard period. Its reconstruction in its current form with an octagonal base was launched from 1303. A contribution by Nicola Pisano is purely hypothetical, but there is a rich testimony on construction works up to 1361.

It is considered one of the finest examples of Tuscan Gothic , which combines elements of Florence , Pisa and Siena.
