Fountain and statue of Neptune

The famous Neptune fountain (Statua del Nettuno in Italian) is in the Central Square of Bologna. It was commissioned by Cardinal Carlo Borromeo of Bologna in 1565 to symbolize the government of the newly elected pope, the maternal uncle of Borromeo, Pius IV.
Designed by the architect Tommaso Laureti of Palermo, the fountain has 90 jets powered by the waters of Valverde. It is topped by the imposing bronze statue of Neptune by the sculptor Jean de Boulogne, known as Giambologna.
The logo of the Maserati car company is based on the trident in this Neptune statue.
