The fountain of the elephant is a monumental work made between 1735 and 1737 by the architect Giovanni Battista Vaccarini. It is located in the center of the Piazza del Duomo in Catania. Its main element is a black basalt and a statue of an elephant, commonly called “u Liotru” and considered as the emblem of the Sicilian city of Catania.
