Salerno Cathedral

Cattedrale Metropolitana di Santa Maria degli Angeli e di San Matteo Apostolo, Cattedrale di Salerno in Italian.

Salerno Cathedral is the Romanesque dome of the city of Salerno in the Campania region. The cathedral was built in the Romanesque style in the Eleventh century and later modified several times.
The bell tower, of great historical and artistic value, with eight large bells, is an important witness to the fusion of the Arab-Norman period.
The front gate leads to a large atrium, only Italian example, with the Basilica of St. Ambrose of Milan, of Romanan portal. The atrium is surrounded by a colonnade whose columns come from the Roman Forum near Piazza Conforti. Very beautiful is the crypt containing the remains of St. Matthew.

Piazza Alfano I, 5, 84121 Salerno SA, Italy
