The Ducal Palace in Massa (Palazzo Ducale di Massa in Italian) is located in Piazza of Aranci. It is also called the Red Palace (Palazzo Rosso in Italian), and today is also the Prefecture (Prefettura in Italian).
The building was started in 1563 by Alberico Cybo – Malaspina, who transformed an existing family villa.
The whole eastern part of the Aranci Place is occupied by the magnificent palace Ducale. Forms and distinctive red color are works of the eighteenth century by Alessandro Bergamini. The exterior and interior of the palace are full of windows decorated with stucco and marble portals that give greater importance to the palace.
