Touristic destinations in Italy:

Abbey of St Galgano

The San Galgano Abbey is a Cistercian abbey, located at about 30 km from Siena, in the municipality of Chiusdino.

The site consists of the hermitage (called “circle of Montesiepi”) and the great Abbey of Saint Galgano, now completely ruined and reduced to only walls; it is a tourist destination: Tte absence of the roof emphasizes the articulation of the architectural structure and makes the old church very characteristic.

By the will of the Bishop of Volterra Ugo Saladini at the death of San Galgano was built a chapel completed around 1185. The bishop who succeeded him, Hildebrand Pannocchieschi, promoted the construction of a real monastery.

Next to it is the sword in the rock of San Galgano.
