The Romanesque Collegiate Church of San Quirico d’Orcia today stands at the site of an eighth century baptistery. The oldest part of the church is the western facade that was built in the late twelfth century or early thirteenth century. The western façade is adorned with a large Romanesque portal.
The door is surmounted by a bas-relief showing two fantastic animals.
The portal of the Collegiate Church of San Quirico d’Orcia was built in 1288 and it is attributed to Giovanni Pisano who handled the construction of the Cathedral of Siena at that time (1287-1288).
