Republic Square (piazza della Repubblica in Italian) is a square in the historic center of Florence: a large rectangular approximately 75 m to 100 m.
The present appearance of the square is due to urban interventions implemented after the proclamation of the capital Florence. In particular, working in Republic Square took place between 1885 and 1895.
The decision to extend the square led to the total destruction of important buildings: the medieval towers, churches, the headquarters of Arts, palaces of noble families, as well as craft shops and houses.
