The beautiful Villa D’Este is one of the Italian sites part of the World Heritage List of UNESCO.

Villa d’Este was built at the request of Cardinal Hyppolite II d’Este, governor of the town of Tivoli from 1550. The Cardinal, disappointed not to have been elected Pope, wanted to revive in this villa the splendor of Ferrara, Roman and French court and, above all, achieving equal the magnificence of Villa Adriana (Hadrian’s Villa).
