Loggia del Mercato Nuovo

Loggia del Porcellino is the popular name of the loggia of the new market in Florence, so called to distinguish it from the Loggia of the Old Market, located in what is now the Republic Square. It is located at the intersection of Via Via Porta Rossa and Calimala.
The pavilion was built around 1547 and 1551 and the loggia is a design of Giovan Battista del Tasso in a location in the heart of the city, just steps from the Ponte Vecchio. It was originally planned to sell silk and precious objects and the famous straw hats of Florence, while today there are leather goods and souvenirs.
