Seat of the municipality, the Praetorian Palace (Palazzo del Podesta or Praetorian Palace in Italian) is located on the corner of Via Vittorio Veneto. The old building is one of the most remarkable of the period of the Renaissance in Lucca. The construction of the Palazzo Pretorio began around 1494 and designed by Matteo Civitali but probably the work was done under the direction of his son Nicoalo.
